MS DPM 2007 and its SQL DB

Say the worst happened, you lost your DPM server, you needed to recreate it without just setting it up again and you didn't want to re-run a full backup from every protected host. Please make sure that you have your SQL Server databases protected using either a different DPM server in a galaxy far-far away or you've just run an ntbackup and taken that to somewhere safe.
The protected data is on disk in a format that is not accessible to protected hosts without DPM. DPM cannot utilize the protected data without -the- (not A) database. DPM cannot use a fresh database and do some 'crawl' type mechanism to rebuild itself.
If your SQL or the backup of the SQL is toast then your whole protected environment just became unprotected.
Thus SQL to DPM is what AD is to Exchange. Critical symbiotic relationship; without one, the other dies.
